Responsibility?
In my preceding post I opine that the lack of a coherent Republican position is enabling poor legislation by the Democrats. I believe this to be a fact. It got me to thinking, were the poorly organized Democrats an enabling factor in Bush 43's policy. That is: would have a better organized, more coherent Democrat position disabled some of 43's overseas adventures? What Obama policies that are supported today will be the "Iraq" of Obama?
Kemp.
Jack Kemp died yesterday. He was the logical successor to Ronald Reagan's Republican fiscal policies of small government and low taxes. He was not, however, able to convey his ideas and beliefs in the inspiring way as did "The Great Communicator". Goes to show that style sometimes trumps substance.
Churchill.
Am re-reading for a THIRD time the Roy Jenkins' biography of Winston Churchill. Some while back I provided a reading list of my favorite books, and now feel the need to append that list with this book. Jenkins' does a phenomenal job of bringing Churchill alive in the book and tracks the life of the great man from his birth to his death with all the twists and turns in-between. It is the small things which make this such an enlightening book - to realize how tenuous was Churchill's grasp on power was when he finally achieved his premiership and how very, very close he came to losing that grasp within weeks of gaining office. And, his lose would have been disastrous for Europe and America. Cannot over recommend this lively book.
